About the Coach

Karen McPherson is a high school math coach for Buncombe County Schools located in Western NC. She provides professional development embedded in the classroom that focuses on improving teaching and learning. Her work includes

• researching and developing curriculum resources
• identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students
• and collaborating with teachers regarding a range of effective and innovative math practices.

Mrs. McPherson was a classroom teacher for 13 years prior to becoming an instructional coach. She is a National Board Certified teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Math Education from UNC-Chapel Hill and MA Ed and Administrative Degrees from Western Carolina University.
